- DIVIDE AND CONQUER -
I usually speak on such topics as Family Prayer or Why I Believe There Is A God, but today I want to talk about the dividing
of our great nation: The United States Of America; and the terrible times in the last days predicted by the apostle Paul in a
letter to Timothy. Now Timothy traveled with Paul and was his official representative when he was away from him.
Paul’s letter to Timothy is found in the new testament: Book of 2nd Timothy, Chapter 3, Verses 1-7, and starts like this:
There will be terrible times in the last days.
People will be lovers ....
Of themselves and lovers of money,
proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, using profanity and showing contempt for and all that is sacred.
They will be without love, unfeeling, heartless and cruel, taking pleasure in getting revenge,
and ready to ruin someone's reputation by telling lies and stirring trouble.
They will think, speak and act immorally,
and will ridicule people trying to do what is right and good. They will be brutal, hating anything that is good.
They will be treacherous, reckless, pompous, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. They will pretend to be religious or church going people, but they will not believe God's word and will deny God's power.
Stay away from these people.
What kind of a generation would these people be that Paul described?
Jesus said in Matthew Chapter 24: Verse 37 that when he comes back, those days will be like it was in the time of Noah, before God wiped out all life on the Earth with the great flood.
What was that generation like? It says in Genesis Chapter 8: Verses 1-8 that by the time Noah came to be, the Earth had become a bad place to live because the people were wicked and did as they pleased. God saw that the people had become corrupt! Their thoughts were evil all the time and lawlessness and violence filled the Earth.
In Abraham Lincoln’s address to Lyceum, he was the concerned about the citizens of the new
constitutional republic of the United States and the threats to the American institutions.
He praised the political system established by the founding fathers, but warned that it could be destroyed by the people living within that system who disrespected the United States laws and courts.
He went on to say the Constitution and rule of law in the United States are "the political religion of our nation."
Because he was the President of the United States, he saw what political turmoil could do to a nation and warned,
“whenever the vicious portion of [our] population shall be permitted to gather in bands of hundreds and thousands, and burn churches, ravage and rob provision stores, throw printing-presses into rivers, shoot editors, and hang and burn obnoxious persons at pleasure and with impunity, depend upon it, this government cannot last.”
Jesus warns us in the book of Matthew, Chapter 12, Verse 25
"Any country that divides itself into groups which fight each other will be brought to desolation. And any town or family that divides itself into groups which fight each other will bring ruin to the town or to the family; they shall not stand. This is also found in the Book Of Mark, Chapter 3, Verses 24-25 and Luke, Chapter 11, Verse 17
And at last, I take you back to Lincoln’s address at Lyceum and a final warning! Quote,
"Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant to step the ocean and crush us at a blow? Never!
All the armies of Europe, Asia, and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest, with a Bonaparte for a commander, could not by force take a drink from the Ohio or make a track on the Blue Ridge in a trial of a thousand years.
At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer. If it ever reach us it must spring up amongst us; it cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen we must live through all time or die by suicide."
And I have to ask this question!
Who are the authors and finishers of our destruction? Did we abandon the morality that God set up for us? Did the news people and media drive truth into hiding?
Are the authors and finishers of our destruction the people who make the laws in this country? Congress; the House and Senate of the United States and in each state?
The President and Governors who sign the bills into law?
Is it the Supreme Court who is supposed to judge if the bill is constitutional and seal it into law? Or the Circuit Courts that are supposed to defend the rights of the people in each state?
Or is it a combination of all of us?
I would like you now to join me in prayer.
Dear Lord, We thank you for helping our forefathers set up this country - for us We pray for the well - being and the protection of this country We pray for it’s healing and the relief of it’s pain We pray that it’s people will turn away from their wrongs and turn back to you. I ask this as a faithful Christian, in your Son Jesus name - Amen
